We are Perceptive
Perceptive was founded on a simple belief - that understanding what lies behind a child’s behaviour is the key to meaningful, lasting support.
We provide clear, compassionate psychological support to children, families, and the professionals who support them.
The Educational Psychologist behind Perceptive
Dr Jemma Anderson is a Specialist Educational Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience across education and psychology.
Jemma leads Perceptive to support children and young people aged 0-25, their families, and the professionals who support them.
Her work is grounded in psychological formulation. She develops a deep understanding of the emotional, developmental, and learning needs behind children’s behaviour, and translates this into clear, practical, and meaningful next steps.
The Perceptive approach
We believe that behaviour is always communicating something - and that understanding what likes beneath it is the starting point for effective support.
Our approach is centred on psychological formulation; developing a deep understanding of the emotional, developmental, and relational needs that may be maintaining or contributing to a child’s difficulties.
This understanding is then translated into practical guidance that supports decision-making, planning, and intervention across home, school, and wider systems.
Qualifications and Professional Standards
Our work is grounded in robust professional expertise and accountability.
Perceptive is led by a doctoral-level qualified Educational Psychologist with advanced training in EMDR and VIG, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and Chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
This ensures our practice is regulated, evidence-based, and held to the highest professional standards.
How we work together
We offer specialist educational psychology consultation, assessment, and formulation-led therapeutic support.
Our support begins with a brief (online) 20-minute initial consultation. This provides a focused space to consider concerns and identify the most appropriate next step.
From there, support may include consultation, assessment, and formulation-led guidance.
